Water World: A Dive into Marine-Inspired Jewelry

Wei Huang and Qiwen Ye's Award-Winning Collection Echoes the Ocean's Elegance

Water World, a jewelry collection by designers Wei Huang and Qiwen Ye, takes inspiration from the intricate and complex structures found in marine life. The collection, which includes necklaces, rings, glasses, brooches, and earrings, is a testament to the unity of art and nature, and the beauty that lies beneath the sea's surface.

The designers' fascination with the sea's intricate structures and the unique aesthetics of marine creatures led to the creation of this collection. It comprises around 30 pieces, each one reflecting a different marine organism. The use of 3D printing technology allowed the designers to capture the most complex details of these organisms, resulting in a collection that truly embodies the elegance of the underwater world.

Water World is not just a collection of jewelry; it's a celebration of the sea's beauty and complexity. Each piece is a work of art, meticulously crafted using sterling silver, 18K gold plating, crystal, and natural pearls. The designers' attention to detail is evident in each piece, from the organic lines and dynamic surfaces to the hidden natural pearl in the openable cover of the ring, which adds a delightful surprise for the wearer.

The project, which started in June 2016 and was completed in December 2016 in Dongguan, China, required extensive research. The designers read books, watched documentary films, and visited marine museums to capture the most vivid images of these mysterious creatures. The challenge was to translate these complex structures into jewelry designs, a task that was made possible through the use of 3D printing technology.

The collection was exhibited in the Lingnan Museum of Fine Art in December 2016. It was well-received and was awarded Silver in the A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2017. The award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and Water World certainly fits the bill. Its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill have earned it a place among the top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs.

Water World is a testament to the designers' creativity and technical prowess. It's a collection that captures the beauty and complexity of marine life, and brings it to the surface for everyone to admire. The designers' commitment to their craft and their passion for the sea have resulted in a collection that is not just beautiful, but also meaningful and inspiring.
